2007 Exhibitions

March 4th to 23rd
Exhibition by Continuum. A group of professional artists supporting each other in painting, printmaking, jewellery, ceramics and sculpture which will create an exciting cohesive show.
Eric James Mellon creates brush drawn decorated stoneware ceramics with ash glazes. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Craft Potters Association. The University of Chichester are publishing his book "Decorating Stoneware Ceramics and Ash Glazes". The book launch will be on 20th May at the Oxmarket, Chichester.
Alison Milner-Gulland works with clear overlaid colour and texture to create slightly mystical paintings. Recently, she has been experimenting with the alchemy of ceramics using strong incised lines so typical of her etchings.
Stephen Neal is a local artist who works mainly in oils and paints views of the South Downs and seascapes of local beaches and those in Cornwell.
Gaynor Williams will be displaying newly bound books at the Forge Gallery. As Gaynor says, “Most fabric if suitably lined can be used to bind in a ‘record’ book of some sort. Don’t all families have scraps of ephemera they cherish? These can be used to cover a special book.”
Lorraine Gibby’s jewellery is bold, colourful and lightweight. She colours anodised aluminium using a variety of printing methods, building layers of colour and texture, then uses the material in combination with other materials such as silver.
Peter Lavender is a semi retired doctor with a lifelong interest in painting. ‘During my professional life this was limited to small scale work, mainly landscape and this obsession with getting down the colour and texture of the world persists, the scope has now broadened, mainly in oils and encompasses still life ,the human body, as well as landscapes.’
David Eva,a Cornishman, has spent most of his working life in Sussex and has painted since very young. As a qualified and practising architect he has always been aware of the immediate environment and the qualities of space. He is fascinated by the colour & found geometry in nature and observed objects. Strong colours and quality of light are combined to convey a true feeling of place.
Most recently, Rose Mackew, who lives in Worthing, has concentrated on painting flowers, inspired by the design and process of the Stained Glass with which she also works. Rose uses a variety of media to experiment with colour and texture, bringing vibrancy to her work which echoes the colours found both in nature and in antique glass. She also produces award winning ceramic figures, full of character.

April 1st to 20th
Priscilla Ritchie presents new oils in an exhibition long awaited, together with the beautiful Raku pottery of Judith Fisher.
Priscilla Ritchie studied at The Byam Shaw. She has exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Portrait Society, Royal Society of British Artists, New England Art Club and Paris. Featured on a BBC2 painting programme, demonstrating her skills as an artist. Priscilla paints mostly in oils, but also works occasionally in watercolour and pastel.
Judith Fisher is a Professional Member of the Craft Potters’ Association and of the Sussex Guild. Wheel thrown pots fired by the dramatic Raku process gives unpredictable results. Each piece is unique and can be beautiful. Judith is fascinated by the magical transformation produced by smoke or flame on clay and the metal oxides she uses.
